Make perfectly crisp, golden-brown dosas at home with the Coldroll Iron Dosa Tawa — a traditional flat griddle handcrafted from premium cold-rolled iron, the way South Indian kitchens have made dosas for generations. The naturally seasoned iron surface gives your dosas that signature crispy edge and rich flavor that non-stick pans simply can't match.
Why Cold-Rolled Iron for Dosa?
Dosa cooking depends on high, even heat — and that's exactly what cold-rolled iron is built for. Unlike thin steel or non-stick pans, this tawa holds heat steadily across the full surface, so every dosa cooks evenly from edge to edge. The longer you use it, the better it gets — building a natural seasoning that releases dosas effortlessly.
Key Features
- Material: Premium cold-rolled iron — dense, heavy, and built to last for decades
- Perfect dosa crispness: Retains high heat for crispy edges and even browning
- Naturally non-stick: Develops its own seasoning layer over time — no synthetic coatings or PFOA
- Wide flat surface: Plenty of room to spread the batter thin for paper dosas, masala dosas, and uttapams
- Iron-fortified cooking: Adds beneficial trace iron to your food — a traditional Indian wellness benefit
- Compatible with: Gas stoves, induction (check magnetism), and traditional chulhas
- Versatile: Beyond dosas — great for uttapams, cheelas, omelets, pancakes, and rotis too
Seasoning & Care
- Before first use: Wash with warm water and a soft scrub. Dry thoroughly over low heat.
- Initial seasoning: Rub a thin layer of oil (sesame, vegetable, or ghee) across the surface and heat on low for 8–10 minutes. Wipe excess and repeat 2–3 times to build a strong seasoning base.
- Pro tip for dosas: Before spreading batter, rub the hot tawa with a halved onion or a paper towel dipped in oil — this is the classic Indian trick for non-stick dosas.
- Daily care: Avoid harsh detergents. Rinse with hot water, wipe dry, and apply a light coating of oil before storing.
- Storage: Keep dry to prevent rust. The tawa will darken with use — that's the patina you want.
